- Exciting new opportunity for 1st Year Engineering students
- Limited places available
Over the course of the 3.5 days the student will get hands on experience in the McLauhghlin Hall Machine Shop. Participants will machine and fabricate 3 different projects, a plumb bob, a trinket box and a can crusher.
On the morning of the first day, we will start the program with introductions to the machine shop staff and a safety orientation to the equipment the student will use during the course. Participants will be broken up into smaller working groups for the remainder of the course and dive into the projects. We will use a shotgun style start as the groups begin on the different projects at alternate stations. Remember to wear your safety boots and safety glasses!
The participants will then progress thru the machining and fabrication process at their own speed using shop equipment including the lathe, milling machine, waterjet and welders over the following two days. After completion of each stage the staff will assist with assembly.
We have reserved time on Friday morning for trouble shooting. The course will close with a fun "performance evaluation" of the finished products.
Proper personal protective equipment is required, including CSA approved work boots and safety glasses.
Enrolment is limited to 24 and is on a first come, first served basis.
